Working at height training


VR training is often used to simulate hazardous and dangerous scenarios, so the user can learn the correct actions for each situation. It would be too dangerous or costly to simulate the real thing, so VR fills this gap.

One such use case is for working at heights. Important lessons are understanding the dangers of falling, correct use of harness equipment, and safety procedures for using tools so they do not drop on colleagues below.

Here we show examples of falling from height simulations. Although these are likely to be effective in scaring the living daylights out of the user and motivating them to adopt safe practices, they are also very likely to trigger motion sickness, particularly in the first example as the trajectory and experience of the fall bears no resemblance to the sensations from vestibular system and the rest of the body (which is stationary).
